Hello,
My name is Darrell Smith and this is the very first post of this particular blog.
The main thing that I would like to accomplish (in this particular post) is to introduce myself and to state some of the topics that we will be addressing in this blog (in the future).
First of all, some information about me. In the past, I've worked as an Electrical Engineer for 22 years. Most recently, I was a Director of Applications Engineering at a Semiconductor Manufacturer (in Silicon Valley). After resigning from my job there, I started up my business with a company called Ecoquest International (where I am still a dealer).
Since then, I have expanded my efforts to include Affliate Marketing (to supplement my income that I've been getting from my Ecoquest Business).
First of all, let me state that I have only recently been involved in Affiliate Marketing. And currently (as of this posting), I am working with two different Companies.
1. The first company is Internet Marketing for Business Owners (www.IMFBO.com) which is owned and operated by a gentleman of the Jarom Adair.
2. The second company is Wealthy Affiliate
Throughout the future blog posting, I plan to cover the following items.
1. Anything noteworthy that I've learned about Affilitate Marketing or Internet Marketing (as a whole).
2. Any articles that I am writing (with the intent to drum up my business) in either IMFBO or Wealthy Affiliate.
3. Any other issues that I come across during my adventures to converting these Affiliate Marketing efforts into strong businesses.
I also plan to discuss the merits of each of these companies in the very near future.
Well, for now, I have accomplished my objective for this particular post. In my next post, I will be posting an Article that I have written up (per my Super Affiliate Training, courtesy of Wealthy Affiliate).
Until then, I wish each of you well.

An Opportunity for the Unemployed Person Looking for Income
INTRODUCTION:
The purpose of this article is to provide the Unemployed Person looking for Income with some information about an alternative (yet legal) way of earning that income. In particular, my intent (in writing this article) is to inform this type of person of the income opportunities and many of the advantages that are available through Affiliate Marketing programs.
SOME BACKGROUND:
In most case, the unemployed person looking for income will investigate the following options to replace their lost income.
1. Try to find another full-time job
2. Try to find a part-time job (to hold things together) until you can find the "full-time" job.
3. Start a business
Let's take a look at each of these options.
1. Find another full-time (or part-time) job:
Currently (at the time that this article was written) the United States has been going through the worst job market since the Great Depression. At this time, for every single job opening that is available, there are roughly six (6) unemployed people looking for that same job.
Conclusion: Getting a job (even a part-time job) is going to be extremely tough.
This brings up the next option:
2. Starting a Business.
For the unemployed person looking for income, one of the biggest challenges that they have to face (in starting their own business) is cost. Many businesses require inventory, start-up costs, advertising. Even many MLM-type of businesses are prohibitive for the unemployed person looking for income. Many MLM-type of businesses require that you pay a few hundred dollars to join, or they have compensation plans that require you to "get on some autoship program" (that will typically cost more than $100/month) before you can get paid any "override" bonuses. In most cases, the costs of these items are simply "out of reach" for many unemployed people that are living off of their bank account.
Conclusion: Starting a business is (often times) too costly and is typically not viable for the unemployed person looking for income.
HOW ABOUT AN ALTERNATIVE - AFFILIATE MARKETING?
In this article, I will present the unemployed person looking for income with a viable "income opportunity" approach that they might not have heard of. This particular "approach" is called "Affiliate Marketing". One of the reasons why I think that "Affiliate Marketing" is so appropriate for the unemployed person looking for income is that this type of "approach" costs them very little money, yet exposes this type of person to tremendous income opportunity. Finally, I will also provide the unemployed person looking for income with some information about the mind-set that they should have when they are considering the idea of becoming an Affiliate Marketer.
How Affiliate Marketing works:
There are many business owners (that have a product or service) that they wish to market and sell. One of the challenges that these business owners face is the high cost of advertising (e.g., getting the word out about their products and/or services). One low-cost (and effective)way to get around the "high-cost of advertising" is "Affiliate Marketing". In "Affiliate Marketing" the Business Owner basically gets a large number of individuals (e.g., affiliates) to go out and "get the word out" about the business owners' products or services. This advertising can be done either online (e.g., via the internet) or offline (e.g., word of mouth, printed advertising, etc.). Anytime a given "affiliate" connects the business owner with a paying customer, the "affiliate" gets paid a certain percentage of the business that was transacted.
A Win-Win for All Parties:
This situation provides benefit to both the business owner and the affiliate. The business owner (essentially) gets free and wide spread advertising (done by the affiliate). The business owner only needs to pay the affiliate whenever he/she actually brings the business owner a paying customer. The affiliate also benefits from the income that results from his/her efforts in promoting the business owner's products or services (often times) without the need for the affiliate to spend any of their money.
Advantages over many other types of Income Opportunities:
Affililate Marketing offers several advantages (to the affliiate) over and above that of many other types of income opportunities.
1. There's no inventory to invest in or keep track of
2. There's no dealing with "customer issues", complaints and inquiries
3. In many cases, the affiliate does not need to have detailed knowledge about the product or service being offered.
4. You can be an "affiliate" for a large number (and wide variety) of different business/products at any given time.
Residual Income Opportunities:
In many cases, the affiliate can benefit from some residual income opportunities as well. Residual Income is defined as that income which you do not need to keep working to obtain. (Income from a Job is certainly not residual income). If the affiliate connects a customer with a business owner that bills on a "recurring basis" (where the customer pays a monthly charge to continue to benefit from the business owner's products/services), then the affiliate can continue to get paid (monthly) for this one-time effort of connecting this customer to the business owner.
THE MINDSET FOR THE AFFILIATE MARKETER
The way that I've described Affiliate Marketing, you might believe that you've come across the "Holy Grail" of "wealth online". This is not true. To be a successful affilitate marketer, you need to be patient, persistent, you must be willing to do a lot of research and to learn some skills. I will briefly lists some of the things that the unemployed person looking for income is going to need to do, in order to become a successful affiliate marketer.
1. Do your research on your target market - If there's no demand for the product that you wish to market. You will not make any money regardless of your skills in marketing or effort.
2. Learn "Article Marketing". Article Marketing is a great way for the unemployed person looking for income to get started in affiliate marketing - because (if done well) it can bring you a great deal of internet traffic for free.
3. Be patient and persistent. You cannot control the actions of other people. All you can do is consistently present people with information about the product/service (that you are marketing) to the best of your ability. The sales will eventually come.
4. Treat this effort as a business and not a hobby. Set plans of action and goals for yourself (both daily and long term) and be diligent about executing to your plans.
It is my hope that this article will open the eyes of that unemployed person looking for income, and perhaps give them some hope and additional ideas on how to earn some income through Affiliate Marketing.
